Pink Bard

Image
Terrible lighting unfortunately. I'd mistakenly thought this was finished until I packed it for the event.  Had to do finishing details 6 inches from the recipient who was also combat scribing!  I have red folder I use for transport so I popped it up between us like a DnD GM screen.  Was a total surprise to her. 😈 Her favourite colour is pink and I had some shimmery pink from an ink advent calendar that I used.

Cyrillic

Image
Some calligraphy I did recently with English transliterated into Cyrillic. Art is by another scribe.

Seagull in Old Icelandic

Image
My first attempt at Old Icelandic based on Ævidrápa  for a baronial long-term service award. The design is based on an extant raven brooch. Listen all and I will boast of a friend to all. It is too late to deny one fine fellow [lit. beautiful boy], he-bear Beorn Bjulfrsson, he begs nothing but gives without expectation of reward [lit. much money]. This March 21 AS 60 [I used Roman numerals], giving Vémundr and sea-ward standing Hallveig, Baron and Baroness of the land girt by/with the whale road, confer upon him the title of noble Seagull. Hlyði allit en ek Berkeley ór allt fólk langvinr.  Frá vinum mínum einn snyrtidreng, bersi Beorn Bulfrsson; hann beiðr neinn nema gefr án vænting féván mikil. At Einmánaðr XXI vér, veita Vémundr ok hafleið Hallveig, Barún ok Barúnfrú ór lands gjörd með halvrr vegr herra horskliger mávar.

First Time Working with Goatskin

Image
This December I had the chance to make a long-term service principality award for someone with a Slavic persona.  Honestly, I forgot the details so I may be misremembering, but basically I used a page from the Peresopnytsia Gospel as inspiration because it was appropriate for the recipient so if I use the incorrect term for the persona, apologies.   My Laurel, Yrsa Kettilsdottir, and the Principality Scribe, Dáma Maminka the Bohemian, kept poking me about documenting the process so you get a ton of bad photos because I'm not a photographer!    My spouse also got a few sheets of goatskin and I thought I'd use the smallest piece of it for this project.  I think it was about 7" square?  Not very big at all.  I used the flesh side because it's supposed to be smoother, but as you can see from this first picture it had a suede-like texture.     I read online that pumice stone is recommended for smoothing so I grabbed my unused...

Beauty in Simplicity

Image
One of these days I'll remember to take photos in good light, but that is not this day.  I really like this one, due in no small part to the simplicity of the design.  I also love how annoyed Goliath looks as he's dying.  Unfortunately, I forgot the blood splatter that was supposed to come out of his neck!

Charter Calligraphy

Image
These are calligraphy for principality charters, which is why there are bits of white-out here and there and some smudges since the digital scribe can easily clean those up.   This one is transliterated from English using phonetic alphabets from Rezansky .

More Early Scribal

Image
This was when I was still forgetting to take photos of the finished product and I wasn't entirely happy with this one because you might not have noticed, but I'm a bit of a perfectionist.

First Experience with Cyrillic

Image
If you read Russian, please don't point out how I butchered this one.  I know that I lost track of which word or letter I was on more than once.  I cringe looking back since an acquaintance of my spouse who's a professional translator kindly did it for free. I think this one was a baronial Arts & Sciences award?  I don't even have a proper finished photo because of how embarrassed I was over the mistakes even though the recipient can't read it.

Pair of Narwhals

Image
These went out to a couple who basically created our baronial equestrian team from scratch.  Not terribly happy with how I did her face and hair, but it was bloody hard to find an exemplar that worked so it was basically free-hand.

Championship Warrant

Image
I may be wrong, but this might be my first project using bastard secretary.  Either way, it's not one of my go to hands yet.  If you look closely, you'll notice I completely forgot the H in "worthy."  Didn't catch that until now. Pretty boring (I blame our current baron who prefers warrants be plain text for accuracy of legal documents), but in comparison to my last post you can see worlds of improvement.

My Early Scribal

Image
While preparing to teach Wordsmithing and the Bob Ross Approach to Scribal (aka Anybody Can Freaking Scribe!) I was digging through my photos and came across some of my earliest work and wow does my calligraphy climb uphill!  Pretty sure the smudging happened after I turned it in, or at least that's the story I'm sticking to!  Still, I'm proud of the art.

Wordsmithing

No pretty pictures, just lots of words that I've written for various charters over the past year or so, but mostly within the past several months. When we see artistic display Hearts lift with joy against the day By one without comparison Thus _______ We do summon Having heard good by your hands Give beauty to Tir Righ, Our Lands. Now go forth and continue to shine. -An Arts & Sciences wording based on a translation from the Occitan of the Provençal poem Can vei la lauzeta mover by the 12th century troubadour Bernart de Ventadorn   O nightingale, fly beneath the clouds and warble of [NAME] who weaves together the glories of our Principality Tir Righ, from the shores to the mountains.
