Wordsmithing
No pretty pictures, just lots of words that I've written for various charters over the past year or so, but mostly within the past several months.
When we see artistic display
Hearts lift with joy against the day
By one without comparison
Thus _______ We do summon
Having heard good by your hands
Give beauty to Tir Righ, Our Lands.
Your skills and talent inspire,
So to recognize them we desire.
Princess Athelina and Prince Kheron
Noble, fair, undoubtable sovereign,
The Etoile d’Argent wish to bestow,
Upon you this _________ Anno
Societatis LIX.
Now go forth and continue to shine.
-An Arts & Sciences wording based on a translation from the Occitan of the Provençal poem Can vei la lauzeta mover by the 12th century troubadour Bernart de Ventadorn
O nightingale, fly beneath the clouds and warble of [NAME] who weaves together the glories of our Principality Tir Righ, from the shores to the mountains.
The Prince and Princess of the Storm Thrones, Magnus and Sina, sing out their praise and command that the Silver Lyre be strung for thee this [DATE].
-Based off an English translation of the Tale of the Campaign of Igor, stanza 4: Invocation of Boyan, late 12th century or 15th century (no consensus, but definitely period and in Old East Slavic)
It’s fitting for us to begin the story using ardent words of valourous deeds in accordance with the events of [DATE]. [NAME] possesses a heart quickened with honour and filled with the spirit of service. Wolves may howl in the ravine, storms may darken the wide steppe, and winds may batter the sea, but you are support and comfort to all.
Bold Prince Magnus and glorious Princess Sina say, Let the banners fly and the trumpets blare with fierce praise that a new Silver Pillar stands among the ramparts of Tir Righ.
-Service award inspired by the Tale of Igor’s Campaign
Be it known to all under our peace and protection that we, Prince Magnus and Princess Sina, are well-pleased by the honest service our subject, [NAME] has rendered to our realm, Tir Righ.
According to the royal prerogative vested in us by Crown, law, and custom, bestow upon you an Award of Arms with the right to register and display arms in consultation with the College of Heralds.
The above we decree will be applied as of [DATE].
-Inspired by an English translation of Privileges Granted to German Merchants at Novgorod 1229
Long is the night and together we gaze up at a bright star banishing the darkness from trackless roads. [NAME] familiar to us are the works of your hands and sharpened mind, which you do for the sake of the land of Tir Righ.
This [DATE], your renowned Prince Magnus and joyful Princess Sina wish to call from the treetops that you are an Etoile d'Argent.
-Tale of the Campaign of Igor
People know that deserving actions are worthy of praise-poems and rejoice those in whom the incitement of munificence swells.
Now [DATE], the great Prince Magnus and splendid Princess Sina, rulers of the Storm Thrones, find your deeds as numerous as the towering trees in the forest. Gracious giver of toil, we name you to the Order of the Silver Wolf.
-Service award inspired by Sexstefja, an 11th century poem by the Icelandic skald Þjóðólfr Arnórsson
No skald can find fitting words of praise for heather-givers, those generous with treasure. Well-pleased are we, deed-proven Prince Magnus and ring-breaker Princess Sina of the Storm Thrones, with the abundance you, [NAME], have given to your Principality. For this reason, let it become known before all this [DATE] that you are entered into the Cornucopia.
-Inspired by the late 12th/early 13th C. Icelandic poem Harmsól by Gamli kanóki
More will likely be posted in the near future as I'm also on the charter design team for the Principality Heirs.
