Quick & Dirty Binding

I've had my eye on some leather folders, but I'm currently between jobs and hate seeing plastic binders during court. So I did some quick and dirty limp binding with some scrap linen for my baronial ceremonial.  100% handsewn linen with matching green poly thread.
If I'd had the confidence and time to do a test scrap, I would have tried to stiffen it with gum Arabic.  Knowing myself, I need to be able to wash it at least once in a blue moon so didn't want to glue to cardboard.
It was a touch too small, so I had to trim the edges and laughed at the hack job, reminding myself this is why I'm not a bookbinder.

Several months ago while my sewing machine was in the shop, I got the wild hair to hand sew a set of bodies based on the extant effigy pair. A friend draped some cotton muslin around me and I used that to sketch out pattern pieces based on the ones in The Tudor Tailor . I used the pieces to cut out some remnant linen and some cotton canvas given to me by the same friend who did the draping.  Even though I had canvas at home and had thought of getting linen canvas, I have problems saying no.  It raveled if you even looked at it funny, so I added a line of straight stitching along any unbound edges on top of herringbone stitching. Months of stitching 1/4" wide boning channels with linen thread and watching Modern Maker videos on YouTube taught me a lot about hand sewing even though I've been doing it since elementary school.  Double lines of stitching might have been overkill, though.  The contrasting colour might make any mistakes or sloppiness...

Kingdom Level Arts & Sciences Award in Welsh

A&S Award wording in Welsh Words by Maminka Every year, An Tir does a competition to eat away at our scribal backlog.  Entrants get 48 hours to prepare and research, then another 48 hours to start and complete the scroll.  The top two of each category (novice, intermediate, and advanced) gets bragging rights.  The only downside to not finishing in 2 days is being disqualified for competing for bragging rights. I don't do it to win, but rather because I'm weird and enjoy it despite the undue pressure I put on myself.  I'm rather neurotic about my own authenticity.  I'm not really concerned with others', but I see it as a personal challenge because I know what's accurate for my persona (Irish without specific time period) and I know how to achieve it.  In theory, anyway.
